Analysis of the Efforts Done for the Welfare of the Stolen Generation
INTRODUCTION
Stolen Generations refers to those indigenous children that are slither from their families by the government state agencies according to policy of acculturation. The foremost rationale for this pursuit is to disciplined children in institutions or nurture to white families. The stolen generation mission was clutch between 1909 to 1969 by contemplating as a legal act. The preoccupancy was ground on credence of white dominancy and black abasement. The implementation on this policy began in the preliminary days of European encampment when children were handled as child labor in farms, servants and guides. (Edwards, W. H., 2004) Many stolen children were accommodating in institution where they were misemploy, neglected and abandon. Some children were adopted by the white families. Aboriginal girls were drive to homes for domiciliary services that were entrenched by the government. This governmental policy had many consequences on stolen generation such as they abide sexual and physical abuse. Stolen generation were enforced to make themselves scarce from their culture and language and embrace a new identity and white culture. The children who use their regional indigenous language are penalized. (Schaffer, K., 2002). The children were appraising that their parents have gave them or in some cases they were told that their parents are died. This policy had devastating impact on the mind of the stolen children and take them in stress, anxiety, emotional trauma, phycological issues, depression, poor health, many socio-economic outcomes, and in many cases suicide (Terszak, M., 2015). In the year between 1909 to 1915 it has not been estimated that how many aboriginal children has been taken away. In 1915 there was an amendment in the act that any child must not be stolen without the parental consent. This amendment was meant by considering the previous poor record. During the policy almost every Aboriginal family has become victim of child removal. It has been estimated that 10,625 families and about 25,844 children accomplished the trauma by stolen generation. Particularly in 2008, the government of Australia expresses regret to the victimized families of stolen generation. The governmental apology for the children of Stolen Generations concede the bruise and anguish endure by indigenous and Torres Strait Islander individuals as a sequel of formerly authority strategy, specifically the moving of children from their families. (Reilly, A., 2008) This research will focus on scrutiny of the endeavor terminated for purloin generation such as well-being, health, demographic characters, socio-economic outcomes etc.
RESEARCH GAP:
Several researches have been carried for highlighting the concept of Stolen generations. These researches were carried in different contexts, some throws light on the injustices made to the people, some have mentioned about the abuses, some were based on the welfare of the people who have suffered in such situations. The major purpose of all these researches were to carry out the healing process of all the members suffered in Stolen generations. The first study taken has highlighted about the result of the efforts done by various people and organizations in the favor of Aboriginal people. The limitation of this study is that it has highlighted the efforts done by people and organizations in the year 2014 which is a huge gap. Work can be done on this topic since, 6 years have passed and no other study has been carried on this topic in this time lapse (Blignault, I., et al. 2014). Another article which has been taken for reviewing is the Contemporary legacy of the stolen generations, in which a thorough study was carried out for the identification of the people who were neglected and were tortured emotionally. The limitation of this study is that it has analyzed the abuses made to the stolen generations but still they were unbale to purely address each and every aspect of the rude behaviors made to the aboriginal people (Cunneen & Libesman. 2002). The Third study we have included in our research project was carried out in 2011, and it was about forgetting the indigenous histories. In their study, they have basically recalled the matter of the stolen generations and highlighted all the cases from the history of the stolen generations. This study has thrown light on the injustices made to the stolen generations, but still like every study this study also has a limitation that this study is carried in the year 2011 and still they were not able to address all the stolen generations due to the time limitation as well as all the restrictions they face while carrying this study (Haebich, A. 2011). The limitations of all the above studies is a gap for us to carry out our own study and the major gap in all studies is the gap of year. By studying all the research articles and by focusing on the time lapses, I have selected the topic for my research which was the analysis of the efforts done for the welfare of the Aboriginal people.
