Advanced Networking Main Assignment Task 2

Scenario:

The client you are currently working for is transitioning its network from IPv4 to IPv6. The have asked you to write a report that covers the following:

  • IPv4 to IPv6 transition methods. A clear, concise and technically accurate paragraph for each transition method should be sufficient.
  • The practical configuration of EIGRP for IPv6 and HSRP for IPv6. It is your job to configure IPv6 addressing, EIGRP as the routing protocol and HSRP as the first hop redundancy protocol to provide two redundant paths with R1 being the active router and R2 the standby router.

The setup of the network is given below, this network has one critical flaw in it’s design. R10 is a single point of failure that negates the benefits of running HSRP on R1 and R2. You should remove this router and the switch located directly below it, you should connect the client devices directly to the switch located between R1 and R2.

You will be provided with individual IPv6 addressing schemes by your tutor, the addresses in the diagram are only examples.

advance Networking

You will need to configure the network according to the design and the individual IPv6 addressing scheme you have been allocated You are required to provide a prototype on a network simulator (such as Cisco Packet Tracer) so you can show it to the project manager (tutor) for approval. When all routers can successfully ping their neighbours, the initial configuration is implemented correctly.

Requirements:

  • Configure EIGRP for IPv6
    Configure some basic settings.
Configure basic settings on each router such as hostname and privileged EXEC password (EXEC password set to cisco)
Configure a Message of the Day (MOTD) with an individual message.
Configure the PCs and router interfaces with IPv6 addresses
Verify connectivity to ensure that everything is correctly configured.

  • Enable IPv6 routing and configure EIGRP for IPv6 on all routers.
    Enable IPv6 routing.
Assign a router ID to each router
Enable EIGRP for IPv6 on each router

  • Configure EIGRP for IPv6 at interface level
Configure each active IPv6 interface with the EIGRP routing information
Configure passive interfaces. You have to decide which interfaces must be passive with regard to routing updates.

  • Verify EIGRP for IPv6 Operations
    Examine neighbour adjacencies.
Examine the IPv6 EIGRP routing table
    Examine the EIGRP neighbor

  • Configure HSRP for IPv6
    Configure some basic settings.
Configure R1 to be the HSRP active router
Configure R2 to be the HSRP standby router
Enable preemption on the HSRP active router
Run the show standby command on R1 and R2 and include screenshots of the output in your report. Label them and place them in the appendix.

  • Write a 1200-word report (+-10%) on the transitional methods from IPv4 to IPv6 and the network configuration and testing.
