Task Details:
Students will conduct a semi-structured interview to investigate the public’s perception to mental health within the workplace. Students will work in pairs to collect an interview transcript from an appropriate participant.
After transcribing the interview, the students will combine it with those collected by their peers to form the research sample. 4Assignment Details Students will then work on their own to select an appropriate method of qualitative analysis with which to analyse the information and use it to identify their own themes from the data and create a theoretical framework based on the analysis.
Rather than focusing on a specific set hypothesis the students will be allowed to create their own broad research question and use an appropriate method of qualitative analysis to draw a conclusion for this question from the transcripts they have collected.
Students will have a choice of qualitative method for their analysis however it is recommended that they stick to one of the following:
- Discourse analysis
- Thematic analysis
- Content analysis
- Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA)
Students will write up the experiment in the form of a lab report using the appropriate APA format and including a detailed record of their analysis, containing any relevant codes or annotations that have been used.
