Biographical Sketch of Sir John Monash

The Reserve Bank of Australia pays tribute to the some of the greatest and most valuable contributors to Australian life. Australia found a gem wrapped in the body of Sir John Monash. According to his birth certificate, he was born on 23^rd June 1865.[1]He was given birth by the German Jewish parents in Melbourne. He was not only admired for his passion for administration, but also for his remarkable contributions in the engineering discipline. The list of his achievements is rather endless. Sir John Monash was a celebrated soldier. He took pride in serving his nation.

“Monash was also a man of parts. He was an accomplished pianist. He was a great lover. He was a distinguished engineer.”[2]

After offering his services to the military and the nation, he took charge of the returned soldiers. Sir John Monash’s experiences were, and still are, a treasured gift to the nation. His advices on matters concerning engineering and military brought massive success to the nation. His concern for the Australian affairs had been immense. In addition to that, Sir John Monash also maintained a close association with the Jewish matters that further augmented his reputation. It was particularly because of his manifold contributions that the Reserve Bank of Australia recognizes him as one of the significant Australians. He did not only maintain his lead in the Australian military, but was also a source of inspiration for the civilians.

The Melbourne’s Scotch College have had the privilege of having Sir John Monash as its Dux. He is, undoubtedly, one of the most eminent heroes of Australia. He is known for his innumerable contributions and efforts to attain success in the World War I. Considering his hard work, dedication, patriotism, and commitment, the Australian military promoted him from being merely a volunteer soldier to a renowned military officer at the highest rank in the army. He also pursued a career in civil engineering and left his mark in the field.

The career and lifestyle of Sir John Monash rivet the attention of the children in Australia. They look up to him as an exemplary leader. As fascinating as he appeared to be in his uniform, he ensured that he lived up to the expectations of his followers. His uniform reminded him of all the commitments and responsibilities wrapped around his body that he was adamant to fulfill. Sir John Monash still remains a model of impeccable leadership, and is looked up to, by the children and the migrants of Australia.

He is a symbol of excellence and is, hence, recognized by the Reserve Bank of Australia as an asset of the nation. In fact, the City of Monash vouches for the perseverance of Sir John Monash and has the privilege of being named after him. He has made immense contributions to the Australian community. The Australia lost its gem in 1931, who not only proved to be a great citizen but also a great leader.[3]
