HLTWHS001 AA1 Part 4 Reflect on own work practices
Task 11
You have worked as a Receptionist at the ABC Medical Clinic (Clinic) for almost a year now. A new staff member has just started, and you have been asked to help train them in some of the Reception tasks including answering the phone, making appointments and the updating and filing of medical records. You are finding it really hard to keep up with your own workload now and have found that you have recently started feeling anxious about coming to work and feel like you are responsible for more than you can cope with. You go home exhausted each day as you have been working through your breaks. You did not want to mention this to anyone in case they thought you could not do your job properly. You searched for some policies and procedures for managing stress in the workplace but couldn’t find any. However, you remember from your workplace WHS induction the importance of reporting any concerns, so you reviewed the ABC Medical Clinic Incident Reporting Procedure (available in Task 6).
On reporting your feelings to your Practice Manager, they were very supportive and provided practical advice to manage your stress and said they would review your workload. When you were speaking to the manager, you did let her know that you tried to find some resources for managing stress in the workplace, however, you could not find any. Your manager agreed with you and was also concerned there was no procedure, policy or information for employees on managing stress in the workplace. Your Practice Manager asked if you would report your situation to the National WHS Representative and ask them for advice on where you could find some resources for managing stress in the workplace.
You are required to make an audio recording of the message you leave for the National WHS Representative, Adola Akard. (30-90 seconds)
- Save the recording as:
- HLTWHS001 AA1 Part 4 Task 11 <insert your name and TAFE SA ID>
- Upload a recording to Learn or as advised by your lecturer.
Your Lecturer will assess your ability to leave a message including:
- Greet HS Representative and identify yourself, position and location clearly reporting your concerns
- Explain your situation including the lack of resources
- Use correct WHS terms and professional language
Task 12
