Assessment 2 FAQs and Scaffolding Materials

Assignment 2 Suggested Structure

Your assignment should use subheadings and follow the suggested structure below. Indicative word limits are provided that reflect the weighting in the marking criteria.

  1. Brief Introduction (100 words)
  2. Describe the critical moment and connect it to broader trends. How does this reflect other trends and issues in education or educational leadership? (10% / 400 words)
  3. Critically analyse the critical moment using 2-3 concepts from the unit (separate this section into sub-sections and use each concept as a sub-section). How do these concepts help you to better understand, think differently, or more deeply consider the critical moment? (30% / 1400 words)
  4. Reflect on what you might take away into future interactions and experiences. What have you learnt from this analysis? What might you do differently next time? (10%/ 400 words)
  5. Brief Conclusion (100 words)

Assignment 2 FAQs:

Q: What is a critical moment?

A:  A critical moment is an experience you have had that relates to the unit ideas of relationships, wellbeing, and emotions in educational leadership. This might be an experience where you were the leader, or where you were working with a leader.

Q: Does a critical moment have to be a bad or negative experience?

A: No, a critical moment could be a positive experience or a negative experience. Don’t feel like you have to just focus on something that went wrong. You might want to reflect on something that went well to better understand how or why it happened the way it did, and how it connects to concepts from the unit.

Q: I haven’t been an educational leader. What should I do?

A: You can choose a moment from education where you have been working with an educational leader. You might have been a student, a teacher, or something else.

Q: Where do I need to include references?

A: A high-performing response will include references in each of the main sections. If you look at the suggested structure above (list of 1-5), Sections 2, 3, and 4 should all include references.

The majority of your references would sit in the main part of the assignment (critical analysis using 2-3 concepts from the unit), but you should use references to connect your story to broader trends (and move beyond simple description), and to show how your reflection might reflect advice or lessons from the literature.
