MGT1ISM Assessment 2 – Report (Critical Review of a Sporting Organisation)

Instructions

There are four steps for you to complete this assessment.

Step 1:

Choose your focus sport organisation from the following list:

• International Olympic Committee
• Commonwealth Games Federation
• Sport and Recreation Victoria
• Sport Integrity Australia
• Australian Sports Commission
• Sports Focus
• YMCA Victoria
• Reclink Australia
• Tennis Australia
• State Sports Centres

Step 2:

Download the report template and compile a ‘description’ of the organisation under the relevant subheadings from official websites, annual reports and media articles (remember to keep a list of these  sources, cite them where relevant and include them in your report). Now write some bullet points then choose some academic literature to support your critical analysis.

Step 3:

Now write your ‘description’. Use the academic literature to compare and contrast your conclusions. For
each of your bullet points, choose a piece of academic literature that helps you demonstrate whether your
organisation is following best practice, or not, why this is so, and what it means.

Up to this step – you have been compiling your description and points from the literature into bullet points under relevant headings in the report template. This is a good way to organise your ideas and prepare for Step 4.

Step 4:

Write up the draft. You’ve done all the background research and reading, matching what you have found out
about a sport organisation with some theory and research from the academic literature. Now we want to go to the next level and write it up.
