Assignment Help on Entrepreneurship
The purpose of this report is to penetrate into an entrepreneur life and demonstrate how he progressed. The person whom I selected for my interview was Mr. Abbas Sayed, proprietor of Ghan Rug ware house. Mr. Abbas Sayed is involved in business of selling handmade rugs and other furniture products, having outlet under the name of Ghan Rugs Warehouse. He is an ideal example of hard work and devotion. Mr. Abbas is afghan by origin; he migrated to Australia in 1995 as a refugee. Initially he worked with different companies as a process worker and on weekends he used to drive cabs for his survival.
Being brought up in Afghanistan, he came up with an idea to sell Afghan handmade rugs in Australia. At first he started with few rugs, on having a positive response, he formally opened a warehouse in Dandenong in 2009. Besides handmade rugs from Afghanistan, machine made rugs from different countries, furniture from Pakistan and jewelry from India are also on display at Ghan Rugs Warehouse. Mr. Abbas got a commendable position in business in very short span of time; the secret behind his success was the quality in most competitive price. He used to personally get handmade rugs from different tribes in Afghanistan himself no middle man was involved and sell it in Australia at reasonable prices. Further in this report I will discuss the unique ideas of Mr. Abbas Sayed that led him to success and how he promotes his business.
Before I opted to interview Mr. Abbas Sayed, I scrutinized many business setups small and large. But I found Ghan Rugs as the most appropriate business with a simple and short history of success. As stated by Vigorito, 2003 that it takes self-sacrifice, devotion and hard work to be successful. Mr. Abbas started his career in Australia as a process worker in companies manufacturing different commodities. He was not satisfied with his job and wanted to do something of his own. After a deep market analysis he found a gap for products from eastern countries and started with handmade rugs from his native country Afghanistan. It was a one man show as he himself visited Afghanistan, selects rugs made by different tribes, import the same to Australia and sell it in the open consumer market. Being solo in this type of business he got a very good response. Later on he added other products like jewelry and furniture in his list.
The ceaseless optimism that emanates from entrepreneurs (even through the bleak times) is a key factor in the drive towards success Kuratko, (2009). When I interviewed Mr. Abbas, what appealed to me was his determination and faith, he said “when you give the same quality that you claim then buyers develops a relation of trust with you and that is the basic pillar for any successful business.” Constant efforts and devotion led him to be a successful entrepreneur in a very short time. For marketing he preferred both methods traditional and advance new technologies. The main purpose of my interview was to come up with an understanding of what it takes to start and build a company, on a personal level on the part of the entrepreneur and operationally.
Individuality of an entrepreneur:
The present culture encourages individuals to embrace risk, stand out with confidence and embrace social and economic obstacles with a new sense of individuality that is today’s business world Ogbor, (2009). It is the basic quality of an entrepreneur that he analyzes the market trend, finds an opportunity and avails it instantly. While interviewing Mr. Abbas I noticed that he has a strong sense of fore sight. After his migration to Australia, though he worked in different companies but was continuously searching something unique, he believed in himself and never dependent on others. Being an aspiring entrepreneur, one must know that starting a business from scratch is a demanding endeavor. There are certain factors that an entrepreneur must possess like, staying focused on the same business and never get distracted with other opportunities, should possess complete knowhow of his business and market trends and how to promote his products.
As stated by Bornstein (2007) that the most successful entrepreneurs were the ones most determined to achieve a long term goal that was deeply meaningful to them. During the interview Mr. Abbas affirmed his faith on his efforts, he was very much sure that the business he had started will definitely produce the desired results.
